Return to Work Case Management

Rehabilitation Services provides expert consultants to assist workers with physical and psychological injuries in overcoming the obstacles preventing them from resuming a full and productive life. Professionals including occupational therapists, psychologists, rehabilitation counsellors and exercise physiologists are allocated cases to correspond with their expertise to ensure efficient and effective interaction between all affected parties to achieve safe and timely outcomes. Each Rehabilitation Services’ consultant is well versed in relevant legislation and best practice guidelines to ensure all parties are suitably consulted and considered in the return to work process. Intervention is proactive, goal-focused and correspondingly cost-effective. Return to work plans and reports are directive, evidence-based and transparent.

Rehabilitation Services possesses a wealth of expertise specialising in the management of both physical injuries and stress-related disorders. Conditions including staffing patterns, equipment, lack of resources, limited training, education, the physical environment, pressure, organisational structure, and lack of administration may each contribute to physical and stress-related injuries in the workplace. There are also a multitude of non-work related factors that contribute. Workplace Assessments

Specialist allied health professionals trained in ergonomics, body mechanics and manual handling techniques conduct all workplace assessments. The assessments are comprehensive and goal-specific. Job and workplace environment analysis services are available for all occupations and industries. Assessments ensure appropriate job to person fit, identify suitable duties post-injury, improve task performance efficiency, avoid injury recurrence, and ensure safe work methods for the future through functional education. Reports are tailored to individual needs and are as brief or as detailed as is appropriate.

Vocational Assessments

Vocational Assessments are undertaken by Psychologists and/ or Rehabilitation Counsellors to establish future career and/ or return to work direction. Structured interviews and standardized assessments are conducted to obtain information about previous employment and education history, explore achievements and interests, analyze aptitudes and abilities, and establish transferable skills. Re-training is recommended when deemed necessary to achieve an agreed goal. Recommendations are realistic and supported by labour market research. Reports are conveyed in a targeted format ranging from legal to career recommendations.

Functional Capacity Evaluations

Identifying objective functional capabilities is a specialised clinical skill. Rehabilitation Services’ functional capacity evaluation combines a battery of validated testing protocols with the clinical skills and observations of the consultants, to arrive at evidence based outcomes. These outcomes inform capacity for work, the need for workplace modification, treatment protocols and a positive pathway for recovery.

Activities of Daily Living Assessments

An Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Assessment measures an individual’s level of functional ability with consideration to their performance of self care tasks, domestic maintenance and general community mobility. The focus of such assessments is always to provide the injured party with improved independence while maintaining safety. As such, recommendations typically entail specific education, the provision of assistive increase a client’s independence and improve safety in the home environment. On occasions, external assistance may be warranted, the extent of which is assessed by our team of Occupational Therapists relative to the client’s functional abilities and limitations and consistent with scheme eligibility requirements. Consideration is given to the most durable and cost effective equipment and modifications, in line with best clinical practice guidelines.

Job Placement / Redeployment Assistance

On occasions where functional or psychological limitation prevents a return to prior employment, Rehabilitation Services can provide seamless specialist assistance through a range of proven methods. Securing suitable employment is a complex task with various dimensions. Rehabilitation Services provides assistance through structured and creative job seeking interventions, for clients that may include workers over 50 years of age, workers from non-English speaking backgrounds, individuals with entrenched inactivity or motivational issues and those with limited transferable skills. Our skills enable empowerment of an individual to actively engage in activities that enhance their prospects and ultimately achieve safe, sustainable redeployment outcomes.

Non-Compensable Injury Services

Rehabilitation Services supports both private and public sector organisations in the management of non-compensable injuries and medical conditions that are impacting on the individual and/ or workplace environment. Proactive intervention creates a positive perception that can avoid claims and workplace disruption.
